“The Newirth Clan has a lovely tradition, it’s called Family Week and it’s just as it sounds…”

While on vacation this summer my old Tascam digital recorder is getting quite a workout. My 15 year old son has made a very sweet audio doc interviewing my husband and his three siblings about a twenty year tradition of getting together for a week every summer and living as an extended family.

It feels so good to be creating radio, fostering an idea and helping it to become reality. Plus I get to play “NPR producer/host” on this one; an avenue I really wish I had pursued thirty years ago. A dear friend recently said to me “Never, ever give up on what is your reality.” Posting this is part of my process, part of my declaration to be known in the world as a writer and producer – a creator of videopera, of radio and beyond. This context is a very powerful one for me and gets me out of bed in the morning!
